Statement: Support for the Addis Ababa Declaration

The Sudan International Human Rights Organization (SIHRO) welcomes the Addis Ababa Declaration, dated January 2, 2024, between The Coordination Body of the Democratic Civil Forces (Taqaddum) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This declaration marks a significant step towards resolving the ongoing conflict in Sudan and reinstating peace and democracy.

1. Embracing Peace Efforts and Inclusivity: SIHRO applauds the efforts made toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict, as outlined in the declaration. We particularly emphasize the importance of including civil society and other political actors in these efforts, especially those involved in the Juba Peace Agreement movements. Their involvement is crucial for ensuring a comprehensive and sustainable peace process.

2. Urgent Call for Accountability by RSF: We call upon the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to fully comply with their commitments in the Jeddah Talks. It is imperative to hold those responsible for the horrific human rights violations, including sexual violence, accountable. Fulfilling these obligations is not only a matter of justice but also a necessity for healing and rebuilding community trust.

3. Dialogue Invitation by Taqaddum: SIHRO urges the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) to positively consider the invitation extended by “The Coordination Body of the Democratic Civil Forces (Taqaddum)” for the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue. Such dialogues are critical for establishing a foundation for lasting peace and democratic governance in Sudan.

4. International Solidarity and Support: We request the international community to show solidarity with the Sudanese people during this humanitarian crisis. International support is essential in aiding the peace agreement efforts and addressing the immediate needs of the affected populations. Such global cooperation is vital for ensuring stability and prosperity in the region.

5. Commitment of SIHRO: The Sudan International Human Rights Organization reaffirms its unwavering commitment to stand with the Sudanese people during these challenging times. We are dedicated to advocating for human rights and the rule of law and ensuring those responsible for violations are held accountable. We believe justice and accountability are the cornerstones of a peaceful and prosperous Sudan.

In conclusion, SIHRO fully supports the Addis Ababa Declaration and the ongoing efforts to bring peace and stability to Sudan. We remain hopeful and committed to supporting the Sudanese people’s journey towards a democratic and peaceful future.
