Urgent Call for Peace: Addressing the Perils of Ethnic Mobilization and the Imperative for Dialogue in Sudan

The Sudan International Human Rights Organization (SIHRO) is deeply alarmed by the escalating reports of ethnic-based mobilization led by community leaders, with calls to “invade Shendi, River Nile State.” This is a dangerous exacerbation of ethnic tensions amidst the already devastating conflict in Sudan, threatening to unravel the very fabric of our nation. Such mobilizations are not only perilous but serve as a catalyst to inflame the conflict further, deepening divisions and pushing our society to the brink of an all-out civil war.

The grim realities on the ground, as reported by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) in Sudan, paint a harrowing picture of the conflict’s toll. The statistics reveal a catastrophic loss of life, widespread displacement, and an acute humanitarian crisis that is rapidly unfolding as one of the gravest the world has witnessed in recent times.

In the face of these daunting challenges, SIHRO implores the warring factions, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to recognize the grave historical responsibility they bear. We urge them to set aside arms and to engage in peaceful negotiations to resolve this conflict earnestly. The stakes could not be higher, and the need for peace has never been more urgent.

Moreover, SIHRO calls upon regional actors and the international community not to avert their gaze from the dire plight of the Sudanese people. While humanitarian assistance is crucial, it is equally imperative to champion and press for meaningful peace talks between the SAF and RSF. The international community must rally to support Sudan in navigating a path towards peace, stability, and reconciliation.

SIHRO reaffirms its unwavering commitment to stand with the Sudanese people in this critical juncture. We are dedicated to advocating for human rights, the rule of law, and the pursuit of a peaceful resolution to this conflict. Let us unite in our efforts to restore peace and dignity to Sudan, ensuring a future marked by harmony and justice for all its citizens.
