STATEMENT: The Holy Month of Ramadan

As the holy month of Ramadan commences, the Sudan International Human Rights Organization (SIHRO) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Sudanese people and Muslims worldwide. This sacred time of reflection, prayer, and community holds profound significance, and we wish all those observing Ramadan good health, spiritual fulfillment, and joy in their fast and feasts.

As we enter this month of peace and contemplation, it is crucial to acknowledge that Sudan is currently embroiled in a conflict that has brought immense suffering to its people. The significance of Ramadan, a time of unity and compassion, is particularly poignant in this context. In the spirit of this sacred month, we call upon all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being of civilians and the greater good.

With the recent Jeddah Talks and the United Nations Security Council’s urgent plea for an immediate ceasefire, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) ‘s role in maintaining peace during Ramadan is paramount. We appeal to them to honor their commitments, using the sanctity of this month as a compelling backdrop for the cessation of hostilities, allowing for a period of calm, reflection, and potential reconciliation.

At this critical juncture, SIHRO urgently calls upon international actors to expedite and expand the delivery of humanitarian assistance across Sudan’s borders into Darfur and other affected states. The agreement on humanitarian corridors is a lifeline for millions in need. We advocate for the Sudanese government to allow increased access and for the international community to bolster their support with essential funding and resources, recognizing the immediate needs of the Sudanese people.

In this holy month, let the principles of empathy, generosity, and peace guide our actions. May this Ramadan bring a turning point towards a resolution, healing, and a future marked by justice and human dignity for all in Sudan.

The Sudan International Human Rights Organization remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of all Sudanese. It will continue to monitor the situation closely and work tirelessly to support efforts towards peace and stability.
