The UN Human Rights Council’s 54th Regular Meeting: A Continued Horrific Addressing
The 29th session of the 54th Regular Session has, again, witnessed a new address confirming the horrific human rights violations committed by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) during the conflict that erupted on April 15.
The Regional Center for the Welfare of Aging Persons in Cameroon (RECEWAPEC) is a NOG focusing on promoting and protecting the welfare of aging persons. Their addressing covered three human rights topics:
- Women’s Human Rights: The Organization called for the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) to get more involved in Sudan, especially after the eerie documented reports of Gender-Based Violence -GBV- since the conflict erupted. More than – women and girls were the victims of rape by the SAF personnel.
- Child Protection: Since Mass Mobilization was decreed by the Commander in Chief of the SAF, many reports linked enforced children enlisting and forced labor. Therefore, calling for the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) to be more involved.
- Enforced Disappearance: Until last week, there have been indiscriminate arrests in which many noted Sudanese politicians and activists were arrested and yet to be released, and enforced disappearances committed during this conflict. The Organization has called for the Committee on Enforced Disappearance (CED) to be more engaged in the country.

The overall situation in Sudan is devastating, and the country is heading into a nationwide collapse each day this conflict continues. The Organization ended its addressing by calling the Council to act quickly.
