Statement on Gender-based Violence in Sudan

The Sudan International Human Rights Organization (SIHRO) vehemently condemns the acts of gender-based violence (GBV), particularly rape and sexual violence, perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan. Reports have alarmingly highlighted the grave situation of women and girls being subjected to inhumane and degrading conditions, especially in areas controlled by the RSF. The escalating conflict has led to widespread displacement and a humanitarian crisis, with over 4.2 million people in need of GBV services.

SIHRO urgently calls for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, echoing the need for all parties to adhere to the commitments made during the Jeddah Talks. Immediate steps must be taken to protect the vulnerable and support survivors of GBV.

Furthermore, SIHRO implores the international community to actively support the implementation of a peace agreement and respond swiftly to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The plight of the displaced, especially women and girls, must be addressed with urgency, compassion, and sustained international support.
