Statement on Mother’s Day from Sudan International Human Rights Organization (SIHRO)

As we observe Mother’s Day, the Sudan International Human Rights Organization (SIHRO) extends its deepest empathy and solidarity to mothers across the globe, directing a particular focus toward resilient Sudanese mothers. These courageous women find themselves amidst the heart-wrenching throes of an ongoing and unjust conflict within our beloved Sudan. Today, we honor the indomitable spirit of mothers worldwide, acknowledging the unparalleled strength and sacrifice of Sudanese mothers who navigate daily uncertainties and adversities, embodying hope and resilience for their families and communities.

In the spirit of this day, SIHRO seizes the moment to highlight the grim realities facing mothers and women in Sudan. We are deeply concerned about the alarming human rights violations they endure, including gender-based violence (GBV) and other severe infringements of their fundamental rights. These acts of violence are not only egregious but also a stark reminder of the urgent need for protection and justice for all victims and survivors. On this day of reflection and recognition, we call upon all stakeholders to amplify their efforts to safeguard these invaluable members of our society.

Furthermore, we urgently request the belligerent parties, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to adhere to their commitments as stipulated in the Jeddah Talks. Both entities must earnestly pursue a peaceful resolution to this conflict, prioritizing the welfare and security of the Sudanese people above all. The path to peace is paved with accountability, dialogue, and a genuine commitment to upholding human dignity.

We also implore the international community, particularly organizations dedicated to women’s rights and well-being, to turn their gaze toward the dire situation in Sudan. Dubbed as the “worst humanitarian crisis of our time,” the unfolding catastrophe in Sudan demands global attention and action. Humanitarian assistance must be allowed unhindered access to those in dire need, and we advocate for increased funding and resources to address this escalating crisis effectively.

As SIHRO, we reaffirm our unwavering dedication to championing human rights and upholding the rule of law. We remain steadfast in our commitment to advocating for the rights and dignity of every individual, especially the mothers and women of Sudan. On this Mother’s Day, let us renew our pledge to stand in solidarity with those fighting for justice, peace, and equality. Together, we can overcome today’s challenges and pave the way for a brighter, more hopeful future for all.

In solidarity,

Sudan International Human Rights Organization (SIHRO)
