Statement on the Agreement for Humanitarian Aid Delivery between the Sudanese Government and SPLM-N al-Hilu

The Sudan International Human Rights Organization (SIHRO) warmly welcomes the recent agreement between the Sudanese Government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu (SPLM-N al-Hilu) on the crucial delivery of humanitarian aid. This accord, urgent for addressing the immediate needs of countless vulnerable populations, stands as a beacon of hope and a pivotal step toward prioritizing human welfare above all. We commend both parties for this commitment and strongly urge them to adhere steadfastly to their obligations under this agreement.

In the spirit of this positive development, SIHRO calls upon the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to emulate this commendable gesture by fulfilling the commitments they agreed to during the Jeddah Talks in November. These parties must uphold the principles of international humanitarian law and human rights standards to facilitate the effective delivery of aid and ensure the protection of all civilians.

Moreover, SIHRO appeals to the international community to intensify their efforts and fulfill their crucial responsibilities in supporting Sudan through its profound humanitarian crisis. The global response must be swift, robust, and sustained, aligning with the principles of solidarity and shared humanity to alleviate the suffering of millions.

We further urge the SAF and RSF to recognize the severity of the nationwide famine and the broader crisis unfolding across Sudan. They must pursue a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict, which stands as a barrier to stability and prosperity for the Sudanese people. Turning away from this path will only exacerbate suffering and hinder peace.

SIHRO reiterates its unwavering commitment to advocating for human rights, the rule of law, and peace in Sudan. We remain dedicated to monitoring the situation closely, providing support, and holding all parties accountable to their international obligations. Only through collective effort and adherence to these principles can we hope to see a peaceful and thriving Sudan.

Together, let us move forward with resolve and compassion, ensuring that this agreement marks the beginning of a sustained effort to restore dignity and hope to the people of Sudan.
